Statement and Acknowledgements

I've been wanting to start an alla prima painting practice for a very long time (insert ode to perfectionism and indecisiveness here!). I take inspiration from the great masters as well as wonderful contemporary realist artists such as Duane Keiser, who started a daily painting movement. Many have followed in recent years. Though our sensibilities and still-life objects may be similar, as these subjects are beautiful, challenging, accessible and traditional to paint, their mastery is quite apparent and came before my own practice. I thank them sincerely and acknowledge them clearly and fully as I take inspiration for my practice from them.

As 2011 begins, I've come to a new understanding: what I choose to paint matters less than the experience of painting and learning. These oil paintings are alla prima, and generally completed in one sitting (2-3 hours). They are usually 5" x 7" or 6" x 6" square. Experience is what I value most and I hope you enjoy the "fruit" of my labor!
